Hybrid burner for calcining gypsum rock in Hundelshausen
A Quick Overview of the Project
VG-Orth GmbH – Hot Gas Generator for Gypsum Calcination
VG-Orth GmbH has more than 125 years of experience in industrial gypsum production. The company markets its successful Multigips brand for both drywall construction and construction projects involving gypsum-based dry-mix mortars.
For the VG-Orth plant in Hundelshausen, we supplied a hot gas generator, including a lignite powder dosing and conveying system. The burner heats the gypsum rock to calcination temperature. During this process, the gypsum rock releases its crystalline water. The resulting product can subsequently reabsorb this water when mixed with water, allowing it to set.
Depending on the fuel used, the burner operates at an output of 0.8–4.0 MW for natural gas or 1.6–4.0 MW for lignite. The hot gas temperature typically ranges from 600°C to 700°C.
Our scope of supply included
- 1 DN 1300 dosing machine with two supply outlets
- 1 hot gas generator, including measurement and control system
- 1 measurement and control system for natural gas operation
- Control cabinets for control, regulation, and data evaluation
- Visualization in the control room and on site
In addition, the customer had previously experienced difficulties with the BKS supply to an existing burner. We therefore integrated this burner into our dosing system. As part of the overall project, we also implemented the interface to the existing BKS supply.
Finally, we commissioned and optimized the complete plant, including the integration of the third-party burner. Thanks to the efficient coordination of all project components, we completed commissioning and optimization in just two weeks.
