Sewage sludge recycling: efficient phosphorus recovery

Our sewage sludge recycling process begins with mechanically dried sewage sludge, which is temporarily stored in a silo. With a residual moisture content of less than 10%, the material is ready for the next phase: It is processed into powdered sewage sludge and transferred to a holding tank. From there, it proceeds to our patented pulse burner. Here, the sewage sludge is converted into heat using a waste heat boiler. The energy generated powers the drying process, while excess energy is converted into electricity or used for other processes.

The ash produced during the incineration process can be used directly as a phosphorus fertilizer or for phosphorus recovery. Finally, the flue gas is cleaned in accordance with the 17th Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV) and safely discharged. This completes the cycle of sustainable sewage sludge recycling.

Phosphorus recycling made easy

At our testing center, we have determined that, under the right conditions, the ash produced after incineration complies with the fertilizer ordinance. This means it can be directly reused and marketed—without costly intermediate steps for the legally required phosphorus recycling.
