Theo Pouw: Hot Gas Generator for Thermal Waste Treatment

For its plant in Eemshaven, Theo Pouw uses a hot gas generator for thermal waste treatment. Carbotechnik supplied the complete system, including lignite dust dosing and conveying. The Dutch Theo Pouw Groep has around 400 employees and mainly supplies products and services for earthworks, road construction, water construction and concrete construction.

Hot Gas Generator for Thermal Waste Treatment

The process is suitable for cleaning mineral waste contaminated with organic compounds. For example, this includes soil from gasworks and refineries.

During the process, the resulting exhaust gases are heated to more than 900 °C. As a result, the organic compounds are thermally rendered harmless. Therefore, the hot gas generator provides the required thermal energy for the cleaning process.

Burner Output from 2.5 MW to 21 MW

The burner operates with an output range of 2.5 MW to 21 MW. Therefore, it provides the required heat for the thermal treatment process.

In addition, the burner operates under sub-stoichiometric conditions. This operating mode helps establish a defined oxygen level in the process. Consequently, the afterburning chamber achieves a residual O₂ content of approximately 3%.

Lignite Dust Dosing and Conveying

The fuel supply system includes lignite dust dosing and conveying in addition to the hot gas generator. This setup transports and doses the fuel reliably to the burner.

As a result, the system combines controlled fuel supply with the required thermal output. At the same time, the hot gas generator enables controlled heating of the exhaust gases to more than 900 °C.
