Shaft Kiln Dosing System for Rheinkalk

A reliable shaft kiln dosing system is an important part of fuel handling in lime plants. Rheinkalk operates a major production site in Flandersbach, where the company produces a wide range of lime products. These products serve industries such as iron and steel, chemicals, construction, air purification and water treatment.

Lime Production in Flandersbach

Rheinkalk developed from the companies Rheinische Kalksteinwerke and RWK Kalk AG. Today, the company is part of the Belgian Lhoist Group, one of the world’s largest lime producers.

At the Flandersbach site, Rheinkalk processes natural limestone into a wide range of lime products. These products serve various industrial and agricultural applications.

The site uses shaft kilns for lime production. Therefore, reliable and precise dosing technology plays an important role in the kiln operation.

Replacement of the Dosing System for Two Shaft Kilns

Following a fire, the existing dosing system for two shaft kilns had to be replaced. Carbotechnik supplied the required components and thereby provided the technical basis for continued operation of the dosing system.

However, the project involved more than replacing individual components. Instead, Carbotechnik coordinated the new equipment with the existing plant infrastructure.

Fluidizing Air and Rotary Valve

An important part of the new system is the fluidizing air system, including the associated piping. It supports reliable fuel handling and controlled dosing.

In addition, Carbotechnik supplied a rotary valve. The rotary valve enables controlled material discharge from the silo into the downstream conveying and dosing system.

Carbotechnik also installed a slide gate at the silo cone. Furthermore, the scope included the required valves, piping and expansion joints.

Connection to the Existing Conveying Air Distribution

The new dosing system had to work together with the existing infrastructure at the lime plant. Therefore, Carbotechnik also connected the system to the existing conveying air distribution.

As a result, the new equipment could be integrated into the existing plant concept. At the same time, the existing pneumatic conveying infrastructure could continue to be used.

Dosing Filter and Cleaning System

The scope of supply also included a dosing filter with cleaning system. The filter supports reliable operation of the dosing system and provides controlled dust separation.

Consequently, the solution covers both the mechanical and pneumatic components required for the dosing technology.

  • Connection to the existing conveying air distribution

Carbotechnik Dosing Technology for Lime Plants

The Rheinkalk project in Flandersbach demonstrates the importance of reliable dosing technology for shaft kilns. Following the fire, Carbotechnik replaced the existing dosing system and integrated the new components into the existing plant infrastructure.

The company combined fluidizing air, a rotary valve, piping, filter technology and additional components into one coordinated solution.

As a result, Rheinkalk received a reliable dosing system for two shaft kilns that matches the requirements of the lime plant and its existing infrastructure.
