Fuel Dosing Machine for a PFR Lime Shaft Kiln in the Czech Republic

QualiCal commissioned a new PFR lime shaft kiln in Štramberk, Czech Republic. As a member of the QUALIPOOL consortium, Carbotechnik was responsible for the engineering and manufacture of a customized fuel dosing machine for the kiln. This project represents the 11th dosing machine supplied by Carbotechnik for a QualiCal PFR kiln.

Precise fuel dosing and distribution

Each shaft of the PFR kiln requires a total of 12 fuel conveying lines. Two conveying lines are supplied by each dosing disc, ensuring a reliable and precise distribution of fuel throughout the kiln.

The dosing system allows the customer to use either lignite dust or petroleum coke dust as fuel. The maximum total fuel throughput is 2,300 kg/h.

To ensure consistent fuel transport, the conveying air enters a collector mounted directly on the dosing machine. The collector then distributes the air across all 12 conveying lines. Each line features an individual velocity measurement system, allowing the conveying conditions to be monitored continuously.

Optimized fuel distribution

In addition, the dosing machine allows the conveying air to be adjusted to compensate for differences in pressure losses caused by the length and routing of the conveying lines. This adjustment capability ensures optimized fuel transport and uniform distribution across the kiln.

As a result, the system provides reliable fuel dosing and consistent fuel distribution, supporting stable and efficient operation of the PFR lime shaft kiln.

ATEX-compliant dosing technology

Because the dosing machine operates in a potentially explosive atmosphere, Carbotechnik equipped the system for ATEX Zone 22. The design therefore meets the required explosion protection standards for handling and conveying combustible fuel dust.

With its flexible fuel selection, precise dosing, individual conveying-line monitoring, and ATEX-compliant design, the Carbotechnik dosing machine provides a reliable solution for modern PFR lime shaft kilns.
