Saturated steam for chemical company in Lahnstein

Facts, Figures, and Project Insights

A Quick Overview of the Project

Steam Generation for a Plastics Plant in Lahnstein

Located directly on the Rhine, the town of Lahnstein is home to the “Philippine, Technische Kunststoffe” plastics plant. The branch manufactures plastic applications for the automotive industry. Therefore, the site requires a reliable and efficient energy supply for its production processes.

Energy supply using domestic lignite

To meet these requirements, GETEC AG developed a comprehensive energy supply concept. The concept primarily relied on domestic lignite as the fuel for steam generation. In addition, the design allowed for the future integration of on-site power generation.

This approach provided the plant with a reliable steam supply while also creating opportunities for future expansion. At the same time, the concept took the site’s long-term energy requirements into account.

9.3 MW fire-tube boiler for steam generation

Following the signing of a contracting agreement for a fire-tube boiler with a firing heat input of 9.3 MW, GETEC AG commissioned Carbotechnik to supply the required plant components.

Carbotechnik was responsible for the engineering, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the relevant systems. As a result, the company covered all major technical steps required for the implementation of the fuel supply and control systems.

Carbotechnik scope of supply and services

Carbotechnik’s scope of supply and services included the following key areas:

  • Complete engineering
  • Fuel dosing technology
  • DN 1300 dosing machine with a capacity of 1,540 kg/h
  • Fuel conveying technology
  • Electrical, instrumentation, control and automation technology

Furthermore, Carbotechnik coordinated the individual components to ensure reliable interaction between the dosing, conveying and control systems.

Reliable steam generation for the plastics industry

The implemented system provides the plastics plant in Lahnstein with a reliable and demand-oriented steam supply. In particular, the combination of fuel dosing, conveying technology and control systems supports stable operation of the steam generation process.

In addition, the energy concept leaves room for future development. The option of integrating on-site power generation means that the system can potentially adapt to changing energy requirements.

Overall, the project demonstrates how individually designed industrial steam generation and energy supply systems can support the demanding requirements of plastics manufacturing and the automotive industry.
