Fuel supply for rotary kilns in St. Leonhard

Facts, Figures, and Project Insights

A Quick Overview of the Project

Lignite Dust Dosing System at the LEUBE Cement Plant

The LEUBE cement plant in St. Leonhard is one of the oldest cement manufacturing companies in the world. The family-owned company has more than 175 years of experience in cement production. LEUBE supplies high-quality cement as an important resource for the building materials industry. Cement is used in a wide range of applications, for example as a binder in concrete or as a filling material in dentistry.

New Dosing System After a Fire in 2013

Following a fire in 2013, Carbotechnik replaced the existing lignite dust dosing system and renewed the silo cone. The scope of supply included fluidizing-air blowers, a rotary valve, flat slide gates, a top-mounted filter and various fittings and valves.

In addition, Carbotechnik implemented the control and regulation of the conveying rates using a PLC with visualization. Carbotechnik also connected the PLC to the plant’s existing process control system via Ethernet. As a result, all functions and messages are available directly within the plant-wide control system.

High Conveying Capacity for Cement Clinker Production

The production of cement clinker, a key raw material for cement manufacturing, is an energy-intensive process. Reliable and high-capacity fuel feeding therefore plays an important role. The rotary kilns at the LEUBE cement plant can each be fired with up to 6 t/h of lignite dust.

To achieve this high conveying capacity, Carbotechnik connected two dosing discs via a Y-piece for each system. This configuration provides the required fuel conveying capacity for reliable rotary kiln operation.
