Energy Talks in Geretsried: Exploring the Future of Process Energy

On July 4, 2019, Carbotechnik invited decision-makers from the manufacturing industry to Geretsried for our fourth informational event. Indeed, numerous participants from the lime, cement, gypsum, and coal sectors attended. Additionally, experts from the steel and mechanical engineering industries gathered to address urgent questions about the future of process energy.

The Growing Pressure on Energy-Intensive Industries

Reservations about fossil fuels are steadily growing. Consequently, energy-intensive companies face rising pressure to explore entirely new avenues. Therefore, businesses must find new ways to generate process heat, steam, and hot water. Only in this way can we ensure stable economic development in Germany and the European Union. Ultimately, modern production processes require energy that is safe, affordable, and environmentally sustainable.

Wood Dust: The Fuel of the Future

The experts at Carbotechnik have thoroughly explored the fuel of the future. After all, intensive research clearly shows that wood dust is the most promising alternative energy source. Specifically, it offers a great solution for companies with medium to high energy needs.

Harald Schwab, Sales Director at Eberhardt Schwab GmbH, strongly agreed with this statement during the event. As a specialist in refractory technology for lime kilns, he added:

“Wood dust is definitely the fuel of the future. Once we finalize the phase-out of coal, only wood dust or pellets will remain as substitute fuels. However, suppliers must guarantee the availability of the fuel.”

Klaus Neumann, Head of the Cement and Lime Division at ZKW Otterbein, fully shared this view. In fact, he found the presentation on new energy sources exceptionally interesting. Therefore, he added:

“Given the increasing scarcity of energy sources, the event was very forward-looking for us. Indeed, we operate as an energy-intensive company in the lime and cement sector. Our company uses Carbotechnik’s dosing technology and greatly appreciates its innovative approach.”
