Carbotechnik at the 49th Power Plant Technology Colloquium 2017 in Dresden

On October 17–18, 2017, the Institute of Process Engineering and Environmental Technology at TU Dresden hosted the 49th Power Plant Technology Colloquium at the Dresden Congress Center. Over the years, the conference has developed into one of the industry’s leading events. Around 780 experts from academia, engineering, and the power generation industry attended to discuss current challenges and innovative technologies.

A major focus of the conference was reducing mercury emissions from power plants. Stricter environmental regulations continue to challenge plant operators. During coal combustion, the process releases almost all of the mercury contained in the fuel into the flue gas. Consequently, operators need efficient mercury control technologies to comply with increasingly stringent emission limits.

At the accompanying trade exhibition, Carbotechnik presented an advanced solution for mercury emission control. The company’s dosing machine injects adsorbents such as activated carbon or furnace coke directly into the raw gas stream with high precision. Engineers can configure the number of injection points to match the specific requirements of each plant. They can also adjust the dosing rate independently at every feed point. Furthermore, the system delivers a continuous, pulsation-free injection. Operators can regulate the dosing process according to the flue gas flow profile and the measured mercury concentration. As a result, the system optimizes adsorbent consumption, improves mercury removal efficiency, and helps plants comply reliably with emission standards.
