Hot gas generator and dosing machine at lime plant in South Africa

Carbotechnik recently supplied a state-of-the-art hot gas generation plant to Christian Pfeiffer South Africa. Specifically, they installed this modern system at the IDWALA-LIME facility in Danielskuil, South Africa. Moreover, the team completed this exciting project in close cooperation with Christian Pfeiffer Maschinenfabrik GmbH in Germany.

Features of the hot gas generation plant

To begin with, the new installation features a powerful 1.35 MW hot gas generator. Additionally, the setup includes a specialized Carbotechnik DN 1100 dosing machine. Indeed, engineers developed this unit specifically for handling lignite dust. Consequently, the system generates a stable hot gas stream with temperatures between 200 and 290 °C. Ultimately, this heat provides highly reliable and energy-efficient material drying.

Furthermore, the engineering team integrated several key features into the system. Specifically, these advanced characteristics include:

  • an ATEX-compliant design for explosive Zone 22

  • a vertical layout with an extended mixing chamber for improved coal gasification

  • a spark-free design for safe ignition of the lignite dust

  • a compact design to minimize overall space requirements

In addition to the main components, Carbotechnik supplied several vital auxiliary systems. For instance, they provided a dosing machine equipped with an attachment filter. Furthermore, the delivery included a modern conveying air distribution network. As a result, operators benefit from integrated control technology. Additionally, they receive automated safety monitoring for the entire fuel supply.

Following the mechanical installation, the on-site team successfully commissioned the complete system. Consequently, the hot gas generation plant now delivers safe, reliable, and energy-efficient drying for local lime processing. Therefore, the facility operates at peak capacity, even under the demanding operating conditions in South Africa.
