Hybrid burner for green fodder processing in Egling

Facts, Figures, and Project Insights

A Quick Overview of the Project

Lignite Dust for the Drying Plant in Egling

Lignite dust in the drying plant provides an economical alternative to the previous LPG-fired heating system. At the Wolfratshausen Ost drying cooperative in Egling, the cooperative processes green fodder. The plant then produces dried grass and other products.

Green Fodder Drying in Egling

The drying cooperative produces approximately 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of dried grass per year. After drying, the cooperative either presses the material into high-density bales or processes it into pellets.

For this drying process, the plant requires a reliable heat supply. Previously, an LPG-fired system generated the required heat. The plant consumed approximately 700 to 900 tonnes of butane per year.

However, this fuel generated high operating costs. Therefore, the drying cooperative looked for a more economical solution.

Conversion from LPG to Lignite Dust

For this reason, Carbotechnik replaced the previous LPG fuel with lignite dust. The company supplied the required fuel handling technology and integrated it into the existing drying plant.

First, Carbotechnik installed a 120 m³ storage silo for the new fuel. In addition, the company installed a suitable lignite dust dosing machine.

As a result, the plant gained a reliable solution for fuel storage and continuous dosing. At the same time, the existing heat supply could be adapted to the new fuel.

Combination Burner for Flexible Fuel Switching

As part of the conversion, Carbotechnik also replaced the existing burner. Instead, the plant now uses a combination burner for BKS burner operation and LPG.

The combination burner allows the plant to operate with different fuels. Therefore, the drying plant can respond flexibly to changing fuel requirements.

In addition, the operator can switch between fuels virtually without interruption. This means the plant can quickly change between lignite dust and LPG whenever required.

This solution also increases operational flexibility. At the same time, LPG remains available as an alternative fuel.

Silo and Dosing Technology by Carbotechnik

For the conversion to lignite dust firing, Carbotechnik supplied important components for the fuel supply system.

The scope of supply included:

  • 120 m³ storage silo
  • Lignite dust dosing machine
  • Fuel handling and dosing technology
  • Combination burner for BKS burner operation and LPG
  • Integration of the new technology into the existing drying plant

The individual components work together as one coordinated system. The silo stores the fuel. The dosing machine then controls the fuel supply. As a result, the burner receives a continuous and precisely controlled fuel flow.

Economical Fuel Supply for Drying Plants

The Egling project demonstrates how an existing drying plant can benefit from lignite dust. By changing the fuel system, the plant reduced its dependence on the previous LPG supply.

Furthermore, the 120 m³ storage silo and the dosing machine provide a reliable fuel supply. At the same time, the combination burner enables fast switching between the available fuels.

Consequently, the solution combines flexible fuel supply with proven plant and dosing technology.

Carbotechnik supports industrial drying plants with individually designed silo, dosing and burner solutions. In this way, the company provides reliable systems for the heat supply of industrial drying processes.
