Fuel supply for ring shaft furnaces in Austria

Facts, Figures, and Project Insights

A Quick Overview of the Project

Dosing system and silo for Baumit in Bad Ischl

At its Bad Ischl site, Baumit uses a new silo dosing system to upgrade an annular shaft kiln for the use of petroleum coke and lignite dust. Baumit is the market leader in plaster and lime products in Austria and ranks third across Europe. With the new system, Baumit creates the technical conditions for flexible fuel supply to its lime kiln.

Dosing system and silo for petroleum coke and lignite dust

Baumit operates an annular shaft kiln for lime production at its Bad Ischl site. In order to use petroleum coke and lignite dust in addition to the existing fuels, the kiln is being upgraded accordingly.

For this purpose, Carbotechnik supplied and installed a complete system for fuel storage, dosing and conveying. The system comprises a 120 m³ silo, a dosing machine and the associated conveying-air pipelines. The pipelines extend to the connections of all eight combustion chambers of the annular shaft kiln.

The silo dosing system therefore performs a central function within the fuel supply. It provides the required fuel according to demand and enables controlled conveying to the individual combustion chambers. As a result, the fuel supply can be precisely adapted to the kiln’s operating conditions.

High dosing accuracy across a 1:8 control range

Another key advantage of the system is its flexible control of the conveying rates. Each conveying line provides a control range of 1:8. At the same time, the system maintains consistent dosing accuracy throughout the entire control range.

This allows the operator to adjust the conveying capacity according to the actual fuel demand. In addition, precise dosing enables the controlled use of different fuels. Consequently, the system provides a reliable basis for efficient operation of the annular shaft kiln.

Complete solution from Carbotechnik

In addition to supplying the equipment, Carbotechnik also carried out the installation. The complete system therefore includes the 120 m³ silo, dosing machine and conveying-air technology up to the eight combustion chambers.

As a result, the silo dosing system provides a compact and efficient solution for fuel supply to the annular shaft kiln in Bad Ischl. At the same time, the system enables flexible use of petroleum coke and lignite dust while maintaining consistently high dosing accuracy.
